About this place

Added by Theodore Kate

Surrounded by foliage that drapes itself over the damp rock walls, this spot will have you feeling like you are in your own hidden paradise as you listen to the crashing waterfall.

In the rolling green hills 35 minutes southwest of Byron Bay is the sleepy town of Tintenbar, home to Killen Falls. At the end of Killen Falls Drive is a carpark and a walking track that leads past Emigrant Creek Dam to the base of a beautiful waterfall and a partial cave just waiting to be explored.

The track to the top of the falls is well maintained and leads to a T-junction. To the left is a lookout which allows you to peek over the falls to the pool below and to the right is an offshoot which is quite steep in places and leads to the base of the falls. If you’re visiting after or during rain (which means the waterfall will be flowing at its best) the muddy track quickly turns to a slippery slide that you should meander with care. Bare feet trump thongs (aka jandles) for tow-gripping ability. Once you reach the bottom of the track, turn left up the river and reward yourself with a refreshing dip and a massage by nature’s best…a waterfall. Return to the carpark along the same route.
