This is an awesome hike. Moving between dense bushes and opening to amazing coastal cliffs high above the ocean with breathtaking panoramic views. At the end of the trail you will be rewarded with an iconic sandstone rock embedded in the cliffs that is shaped like a wedding cake. Get the best of the east coast of Australia with this fantastic scenic trail.
The trailhead is located about 30 minutes outside of Sydney, NSW in the Royal National Park.
Finding the trailhead was a bit difficult as Google Maps had taken us (as well as others we met along the way) to a different trail head in the park. So make sure you know where the trailhead is before you depart as cell phone service can be spotty when you arrive. Set aside 2 hours or more to complete the journey, while the trail isn't very long, you will want to take time to enjoy the views.
The trail begins in a culdisac where parking as permitted. Following a main paved trail you will see a sign on the left that marks the beginning of the walk to Wedding Cake. The walk is sand to begin with, moving through bushes with a very clear markings along the way, as you continue the trail weaves out onto beautiful cliffs with spectacular views and back into bushes.
There are very clear markings along the way so it is unlikely for individuals to get lost along the way.
Make sure you check local alerts as Wedding cake itself is often gated in certain times of the year as it is to dangerous to stand on. Regardless the hike itself is beautiful and even if you can't get a photo of yourself standing on the rock it is still well worth the hike.
