Hike the Cape Baily Coast Walk

This is a great hike if you enjoy heights and looking out on the ocean, as most of the hike takes you along white rocky cliffs on the edge of the park.

Given the majority of the walk is exposed, please make sure to bring sun protection and lots of water.

I've started the walk at the Cape Solander carpark, however if you're in Cronulla (as I was), you can walk the 5km along the beach to the other end of the walk, which is beautiful, watching surfers and dogwalkers as you make your way. The start of the walk is at the far side of the beach, around a bend close to a boat marina. If you're walking, on the other end you can walk from the Cape Solander carpark through the whale track to the Visitors Centre (1.6km) in Kurnell, which is around 300m from the town itself and a bus stop that takes you back to Cronulla. If you happen to stop by the visitors centre, follow the signs to the landmarks around Botany Bay where Captain Cook and his ship the Endeavour first landed in Australia in 1770.

If you do decide to park at Cape Solander, this hike is an out and back (or point to point if you leave your car on the other end, and I've calculated the kms below as such.

From the Cape Solander Carpark, walk to your right down to the cliffs, where you get your first stunning views of the ocean. This area is great for whale watching, so keep your eyes peeled!

From there, continue along the track, which is well marked and winds along the coastline for the majority of the track. The main track is wide and well-worn, but there are many smaller tracks that follow closer to the cliffs, offering stunning views, but can be a bit overgrown or too close to the edge for comfort if you're worried about heights!

Keep a lookout for the Cape Baily Lighthouse, which is around halfway through the walk.
