About this place

Added by Katie Kessel

A stunning and rewarding day hike just two hours outside of Melbourne. The summit includes stunning views of Lake Eildon and finishes along the lake with lots of stunning birds and wildlife.

Starting off at the carpark, walk back the way you came about 500m until you reach Merlo's Lookout. Here, you can take in some great views of the lake before you start the summit.

From the lookout, there is a trail that leads uphill directly behind you. The trail is well marked and ascends quickly up the hill. Behind you are some great views of the lake. When you reach the summit, there are some great spots to take in the view.

From the summit, continue along the track, following the Blowhard Spur Walking Track. Continue along the track, which is well marked, until you reach Skyline Road. Follow the road to the right for just over 1.5 kms until you see Station Creek Track to your right, just before the end of the park where you can see sheds on private property.

Continue along the Station Creek Track until you meet the Aird Inland Track, taking you back to Lake Eildon.

This track meets up with the Wallaby Bay Walking Track, which has a few opportunities to visit points around the area, such as School Point (less than 100m from the path) and Cook Point (160m from the path). These points take you out onto the lake and offer beautiful views.

Continue along the track until you reach the carpark where you started.

Please note that there are a few great camping areas in the park, including Lakeside. If you're interested in making a weekend out of it, you can book a campsite (permit required with the exception of a few walk-in spots on the north side of the park).
