Explore Deep Pass Canyon

Hiking up Nayook Creek - Deep Pass Canyon, provides a unique opportunity within the Blue Mountains to escape the crowds and experience one of the many canyons that litter the range.

The walk begins at the carpark of a small dirt road, which is accessed via turning off the popular Glowworm tunnel road. Finding the correct route in the maze of roads across the Newnes plateau is often the hardest part of this adventure - so make a route from the location provided - and carry a map!

The walk descends past the gate on the road down a ridge following the access road to the overnight campsite - which can be a great spot to spend a night and extend this trip. From the campsite, veer right on the trail that leads along the bottom of the cliff line headed South-West. From here, the canyon begins to close in around you and the vegetation around the trail becomes quite dense.

This is where the fun starts. The trail breaks out onto the creek and a small rockpool with a pretty waterfall flowing into it. Climb up the rockwall with the assistance of the rope ladder and from there follow the creek and keep climbing up the canyon via rope ladders and log bridges until you reach the top!

When you reach the top of the canyon, a trail will lead to the north up the steep incline and back along the ridge to the carpark.

Caution should be applied when planning this trip in regards to the weather. As you are in a canyon flash flooding can occur - so make sure you look at the weather forecast before you go!
