About this place

Added by Ashleigh Benn

Beautiful blue Port Stephens is just a 40-minute drive from Newcastle, NSW. You'll find beautiful white sand beaches and bays with crystal clear water. Tomaree National Park is home to Mount Tomaree Head which is a 45 minute trip each way with 360 degree panoramic views of the ocean, bay and stunning views of Port Stephens.

Driving through Shoal Bay along the water you will come to a car park at the end of the road. There is beach access to Zenith Beach and this is also where Mount Tomaree Head Summit walk begins. The walk starts off fairly easy and is paved or has metal stairways for the duration of the summit. After about 10-15 minutes you will reach the steep stairwells leading you up the top. You'll start to get glimpses of bright blue and green ocean. As the summit approaches you will reach a large clearing on the platform with views of the bay to your right, keep going and you'll also see beautiful Zenith Beach.

Head up the last set of stairs and you will come to the summit of Mount Tomaree. There are viewing platforms all over the top so make sure you check out all of them! Take your time, have a drink or some lunch and head back down to Shoal Bay or Zenith Beach for a refreshing swim. If you're lucky you might find some local kangaroos hanging out in the reserve at the start of the summit trail!
