Nestled between the city and the ocean is the Cairns Esplanade, a large public space including a grass park, many picnic benches and barbecues, the Lagoon (free outdoor swimming pool), walking paths, and restrooms.
Cairns Esplanade offers a scenic view of the ocean and surrounding mountains. Bring a blanket, read a book, pack a picnic, watch the sunset with friends and family, do whatever you do to relax for the afternoon or evening. There are restaurants of all kinds surrounding the esplanade if you want to buy food or drinks once you arrive.
This is possible one of the most popular spots in Cairns, so plan on getting there early to grab a spot at one of the picnic tables.
Parking is available in a large lot south of the Lagoon.
