Camel Trek Sunrise at Ayers Rock

While many people see and experience Ayers Rock, few do it in such a manner as camelback. Sunrise at Ayers Rock is particularly fascinating due to the unique colors of the landscape and its subsequent effect on the rock itself. Changing from Red to Orange to even Purple, the changing appearance of Ayers Rock is as fascinating as the rock itself

The camel tours need to be reserved, but can be done so a day or two before you want to go. A shuttle will pick you up at any hotel within Ayers Rock 1 ½ hours before sunrise. You’ll be whisked away to the Uluru camel farm where the trek will begin. (note: even if you dont go on the tour, you can visit the Camel farm from 9am-5pm; a good family activity). After brief instructions you board your camel and you’re on your way.

The actual camel ride lasts about an hour. It’s a slow and steady ride which is ideal for how much there is to see and take in. As the sun rises over the horizon, the camel caravan will stop to let everyone on the tour enjoy the beauty and changing light which surrounds them. While Uluru will be the main attraction, you’ll also be able to see Kata Tjuta is the distance as well.

Once back at the camel farm, you’ll enjoy a coffee (or beer), some cornbread and discuss the experience with the rest of those who joined you.
