About this place

Added by Zachary Heiliger

Home of the 24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell, this sleepy dude ranch turned climbing mecca has some of the best sport climbing in the South! This wildly popular climbing destination has hundreds of sandstone routes that attracts some of the biggest names in climbing from Alex Honnold to Chris Sharma!

Horseshoe Canyon Ranch (HCR) 36°0'25"N 93°17'23"W is located just West of Jasper, Arkansas and hosts hundreds of sport/trad climbing routes ranging from 5.6 to 5.13a! Driving into the canyon, you will follow along a dirt road to the gate for Horseshoe Canyon. Continue down, past the barn to the HCR Trading Co. building. Inside, is where you can register to climb, pay for camping and get token for showers. If you are a sport climber, this place will be like heaven on earth to you! HCR's sandstone cliffs are well protected with set anchors at the top, making climbing there as efficient as possible. Don't be surprised to find yourself climbing more routes, at a slightly higher grade than you typically do! The most popular climbing areas are The North Forty, The Far East, Middle East and Roman Wall. For quality climbs look at tackling Crimp Scampi (5.10+ Sport) or step it up to the classic Horseshoes and Hand Grenades (5.11a Sport, 60)

Camping: Climbers are only permitted to camp in a segregated section of the canyon, away from the Cabins and Lodge. Primitive, open field camping with first come, first serve location selection. Basically, find an open spot and set up camp! Restrooms are available and showers require a token that can be purchased from the HCR Trading Co.
