About this place

Added by John Chau

Hideout Hollow is a great spot for beautiful sunsets over the Ozark Mountains. Explore remnants of old draft-dodger and outlaw hideouts below the rocky bluffs and a 37 foot flowing waterfall and numerous other small waterfalls.

After parking at the trailhead, head down the well-trodden path and follow it the 0.85 miles downhill to the overlook. Once you are at the overlook, go left and follow the path as it loops around the top of the overhang. You’ll arrive at a small creek (which creates the waterfall that flows into the hollow).

If you hike a few yards upstream, you’ll encounter a small oasis complete with a mini-waterfall and a small campsite.

Get back on the path and cross the creek. Crawl along the edge of the bluff (be extremely careful as there is a good 50ft+ drop to your right) and hike down the “staircase” of boulders at the end.

Head into the hollow and you’ll find great places to camp if you want to stay in the area for a few days.

After you’re done checking out the hollow, hike back out the way you came.

Note:
  • Be careful when you crawl along the edge of the bluff during the winter as ice tends to form on it
  • The best time to go is right before dusk (so pack a headlamp for the return trip) and you can watch the sun setting to the west while eating a snack at the overlook

Great hike and views
We hiked to the waterfall. Easy terrain and 1 mile in. Great views along the bluff.
