About this place

Added by Jon King

Explore unique “pedestal” rock formations and take in stunning views of the Ozark Mountains with this easy loop hike.

Shortly after the trailhead, you’ll come to a three-way intersection. Head straight on Pedestal Rocks Trail to make a counterclockwise loop. Follow through the woods until you reach the bluff line. Check out the ledges along the way and you’ll begin to see the pedestal rock formations. There are several areas where you can head off trail and explore the rocks and caves from below. Continue along the ridge until you get back to the forest. Soon you’ll return to the initial three way intersection. Retrace your steps back to the parking area.

Watch your step along the trail as large holes and sheer cliffs are common. If you’re hiking with children, keep them close and don’t let them wander too far off the trail.

The trail is well marked and maintained. Allow 1.5 hours to complete the hike.

How to get there:
Pedestal Rocks Loop is located 6 miles east of Pelsor/Sand Gap, Arkansas in the Pedestal Rocks Scenic Area. There is a small gravel parking lot and includes a picnic area and primitive restroom. The trailhead is located just past the restroom.
