Just a 2 hour drive from Phoenix lies a wonderful escape from the summer high temps!
This hike is a ~4 mile heavily trafficked loop trail that circles Woods Canyon Lake, on the beautiful Mogollon Rim. Peaceful and easy, this trail is suitable for all skill levels, and is great for families looking to spend a bit of time in nature. The trail follows the shoreline closely, and for the little bit in which it moves farther into the forest, it is very well marked.
There’s a parking lot at the marina (where the trailhead is located), but know that this is a very popular spot, and the parking lot fills quickly (especially on weekends).
As you begin your hike, you're sure to encounter a large number of people fishing from the shore or picnicking on the rocks.
Seasons: Spring – Fall.
Note that storms roll in quickly on the rim, so please be prepared. And always follow Leave No Trace ethics.
