Less than an hour away from central Phoenix, this accessible trail system leads hikers through Sonoran desert scenery to a great view from the Western skyline.
The Valley Vista trail is a short hike in Skyline Regional Park, located in the southern region of the White Tank Mountains west of Phoenix. From the top you'll have a great view of the Estrella Mountain Range and the southwest valley. For the most direct route, take the Turnbuckle trail. This leads hikers from the trailhead around either side of the mountain to the Valley Vista trail which leads to the summit. At the top you'll find a view to the east, south and west, so a sunrise or sunset hike is worth consideration.
The Turnbuckle trail is mostly smooth, gaining little elevation. The Valley Vista trail itself is much rougher and steeper leading up to the summit, but this only lasts for a third of a mile.
From the I-10, exit at Watson Rd. and drive North until you reach the park. Always remember to bring enough water.
