Shoshone Point

A two mile round trip and relatively fast hike, Shoshone Point lies only about a mile from the parking lot and is an easy hike along a dirt road to a stunning vista. The trailhead is on Desert View Dr (Highway 64) about 3.5 miles east of the junction of highways 180 and 64. Look for the trail on the north side of the road as you drive east on Desert View Dr and you will see a parking area with room for 5 or 6 cars, and a gate that blocks the dirt road.

Follow the dirt road for about a mile until you will see a pavilion that is available as an event space, permits required. While there are no restrooms at the trailhead, there are at this location. Continue on a small and narrow (exposed) trail out onto a small rock outcropping where you are surrounded on three sides by dramatic exposure and breathtaking views on the Grand Canyon. Walk out to the edge for those who are not afraid of heights! 

This hike is also available as a snow shoe hike in the winter. 

As every where else in the national park, dogs are only allowed on paved walkways, not trails. Please be aware and respectful of these regulations and as always, leave no trace.
