Rim Lakes Vista Trail #622

This heavily trafficked, easy trail leads along the edge of the Mogollon Rim, with spectacular views.  There are lots of places for photos, but make sure to be very careful, as it’s more than a 200 ft drop!

The first ½ mile of the trail is paved, making it easy for all ages to enjoy.  But again, make sure to watch kiddos closely.

There are multiple pullouts with parking along the trail, but the spots fill up quickly (especially on the weekend, when everyone is driving to Woods Canyon Lake for camping and fishing). 

Trailhead Location: The main trailhead is located just west of State Highway 260 along Forest Road 300. Forest Road 300 is located approximately 26 miles west of Heber, immediately across from the Rim Visitor Center.

When you're driving on the Rim Road, don't pull off into the first overlook point (this takes you to a different trail, which goes straight down the rim).  Pull off on into the second pullout and start the trail from there.

Spring, Summer and Fall are the best times to visit.   Know that if the Rim gets a large amount of snow, the road does close.  Make sure to check with the Mogollon Visitor Center before going (they have vault toilets there too).

Mogollon Rim Visitor Center: The visitor's center is located on the south side of Highway 260 approximately 32 miles east of Payson and 27 miles west of Heber/Overgaard.  It is directly across the street from the turnoff to go up to the rim drive.
