About this place

Added by Jenna Herzog

Experience the best views of Argentina's Lake District region in northern Patagonia.

With sweeping vistas of Lake Nahuel Huapi, Lake Perito Moreno, Llao Llao peninsula and the surrounding mountains, this short hike is a must-do for anyone visiting San Carlos de Bariloche.

A quick hike (about 30 minutes) takes you to the summit of Cerro Campanario, at 3,442 feet. The trail is well-defined and easy to follow; there are a few forks along the way, but they will all take you to the same place. At the summit, take in the 360-degree views of pristine lakes and mountains, and enjoy un cafecito and a pastry from the mountaintop cafe (open year round).

Though Cerro Campanario may not feel like a rugged mountain experience (you'll likely share the summit with visitors who paid to take the chairlift up there), the views are well worth the trip.

Getting there: From downtown Bariloche, head left down Bustillo Ave. for 17.5 kilometers (10.8 miles). The trailhead is to the right of the chairlift. Buses run regularly along this route.
