The glacier is an event in and of itself, but if the weary traveler goes just a few more miles, you'll find a series of pristine lakes and a complete serenity with no one around but the bears!
Traversing the glacier can be a whole day experience in and of itself. Make sure to set aside enough time to explore. I'd plan on at least 3-4 hours total travel time round trip on the glacier alone.
The Donoho Lakes are a series of lakes that exist on a narrow strip of flat land between two glaciers that is a blast to explore. Make sure that you go with at least one companion as the trail is brushy. Unfortunately, until you are literally at the lake, it is a little hard to see as the trail is overgrown by brush in sections, Bears are also rampant in this area, so it is important to make a lot of noise to let them know you're there (hence the partner). Once at the lake, you'll understand that the effort is worth it; a stunning 360 degree view of mountains studded with a pristine clear water lake.
The lake is a great point to stop, eat lunch, skinny dip (no one around, why not!) and/or just enjoy the complete serenity. The trail continues to a second lake, although we didn't make it that far. It's possible to backpack past here, although there aren't any established campsites (true backcountry in the wilderness).
