Hike through Hurricane Creek Park

There are two access points to the park from the Parking lot area. The first is just up the road to the east of the top of the parking area, this is the trailhead to the exit portal trail, which is about .2 miles to reach the central hub. From the hub, there are two separate loops that wind through the park, with multiple offshoots and paths that lead down to swimming holes and small beaches along the creek. The second access point is at the west end of the parking lot at the back of the roundabout, which is only 50 yards from the creek itself, and one of the larger beach areas. This is usually the most crowded areas of the park, so if you are looking for a secluded picnic spot, follow the  small trail that follows the north shore until you find an empty beach area. There are many hidden gems along the creek, so floating or paddling down is also an option, but beware of areas with still water, I have heard some people complaining of finding leeches. The park is open from sunrise to sunset, but the ranger who comes by at night to close the gate typically waits at least an hour after dark if there are still cars in the parking lot so if you want to photograph the sunset you don't have to worry about your car being locked in.

Overall, Hurricane Creek Park's convenient location and many exploration opportunities make it a great place to spend an afternoon while staying within 15 minutes of Tuscaloosa.
