A very unique mesa that many people pass by on the highway but few explore.
Red Knolls Amphitheater is a natural resource managed by the BLM just off of highway 70. The mesa is filled with slot canyons, caves and holes that are great for exploring and photography.
Some trails can be steep and crumbling so use common sense when climbing this wild scenic area. Never climb in the area during a rain storm and always bring water with you, there is no shade outside of the center of the mesa. This place tends to be an evening party place for local youths and the community is always cleaning the area so please leave nothing but footprints and take nothing but pictures. Always be on the lookout for bee hives in the cliffs and avoid them.
The short road from hwy 70 to the mesa is rough and is surrounded by private property so please stay on the road and use medium clearance vehicles. The road ends at the mesa and another BLM road goes around the mesa with the easiest climbing up and into the mesa being on the South side.
