Hop in your 4x4 to escape the crowds of St. Mary's by heading just southwest to Fall River Reservoir. This is an awesome location to enjoy some great hiking, fishing, or just relaxing by the lake.
This spot may be a little more difficult to reach than others, but the payoff is worth it. You'll start by taking a dirt road that splits off from Fall River Road. It is pretty easy going for the first mile or so, but then you'll want to make sure you have a little higher clearance 4x4 vehicle to get over the rocks that cover the road as you get closer to the lake. I drove my 2005 Grand Cherokee with no mods and it did just fine. Once you get done with this bumpy ride, you'll be blown away by the insane views you'll share with only a few others.
I highly recommend taking a quick walk around the lake on the 1 mile loop. It is super easy except for a few creek crossings and getting over Fall River. It takes you up a little higher above the lake on the south side and then drops back down right along the shore for the rest of the way.
